Gatewood Baptist Church

Our Purpose

The Word of God reveals the following six objectives regarding the purpose of the church that we at Gatewood seek to be the guidelines for ministry.

To Glorify God ~ Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.  (Ephesians 3:21).

Glorifying God is the duty of the church, and the burden falls to every member of the body.  This glorifying involves worship toward God for the whole man, in actions, attitudes, words and possessions.

To Equip the Saints ~ God gave to the church leaders…for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12).

God expects Christians to involve themselves in the ministry ~ a team effort reaching, teaching and the building up of the body.

To Maintain Holiness ~ …Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:25-27).

We teach holiness, practice holiness and counsel those in our body not living a life of holiness.

To Evangelize the World ~ Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (James 5:20).

Another purpose of our church is to proclaim God’s Word to our community, our nation and our world.  We seek to do this locally through our committed members, nationally through a home missions program, and to the uttermost part of the world through faith promise mission giving to foreign fields.

To Suffer if Necessary ~ For to this you are called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps. (I Peter 2:21).

To Await His Return ~ Watch therefore; for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (Mark 13:33).

Christ will return for His Church and physically unite the body (believers) to the Head (Christ).  While we wait, we should be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord; knowing that our labor is not vain in the Lord. (I Corinthians 15:57-58).

This is our stated purpose.  If you find these objectives to be yours as well, then there is a place at Gatewood for you.
